In these times of keyboard skills and direct messaging the art of good handwriting is viewed by some as less important. But not by the teachers at Santa Maria Magdalene Primary school, Benitatchell and Teulada Moraira Lions club.
For many years the school has entered all their pupils into the annual Claude Kelly Memorial Handwriting Competition named in honour of a founder member of the Lion’s s club.
Traditionally, on the last day of term, all the children assemble eager to find out who has won the coveted diplomas. At this special ceremony the Lions President and the headteacher award the prizes for the best handwriting to the rousing applause and cheers of the whole school.
A new year, a new term , the children start practising their handwriting skills once again in the hope they will impress the Lion’s judges the most.
The tradition continues.
